Generic TLDs price increase
Generic TLDs price increase for July 2013
There are around 50 million new domain name registrations each year. And for the past several years, this number has been growing steadily. With this trend in mind, the organizations that administer the most popular TLDs – .COM, .NET, .ORG, .INFO and .BIZ, are into the habit of increasing the domain registration/renewal prices each year by 10%. A large amount of money is then invested in improving the hardware infrastructure in order to support the millions of new domain names.
At DoneRite Web Hosting, we don’t like to increase our domain or web hosting prices since it goes against what we believe in. That is the reason why during the last major price increase in the beginning of 2012 we managed to keep our domain retail prices unchanged, some even dropped, sacrificing profit margins for increased customer loyalty.
However, we are currently facing yet another price increase for 2013, which affects all generic TLDs. And we can no longer keep our current prices as low they are. Here are our new generic TLD prices, which will take effect on the 17th of July:
- .COM will increase from $9.99 /yr to $10.99 /yr
- .NET will increase from $9.99 /yr to $10.99 /yr
- .INFO will increase from $9.99 /yr to $10.99 /yr
- .ORG will increase from $9.99 /yr to $10.99 /yr
- .BIZ will increase from $9.99 /yr to $10.99 /yr
But, there is yet a silver lining. There is a two-week window before we update our prices. During this time our pricing will remain the same. You can use this time to register the domain names that you want or to renew your existing domains, taking advantage of our current prices. Also, given the fact that the domain registration/renewal price is very likely to increase with each passing year, you should really consider opting for multi-year domain name registrations and renewals. This can save you a lot of money in the long run. Plus, you won’t have to worry about your domain name’s expiration date each year.
